Man boss: A taste of Janne Kyttanen
Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down with my husband to discuss the brand of Janne Kyttanen. This was exciting for me since I have personally seen Janne evolve over the last 7 years into a husband, CEO and father.
How did this discussion start?
Well, as you know I am an advocate for lady bosses everywhere and love recognizing and supporting women who are truly making a difference and doing what they love!
Yet one day after one of my posts on Facebook, I received a comment that asked:
"what about all the man bosses out there?"
That got me thinking about my husband. How much do we take for granted our partners? Do we take the time to recognize who they are, what they have achieved and most importantly, who you have become as a result of their love and support?
So I decided to sit down with Janne and ask him the same questions I ask my lady boss features. Unexpectedly, this turned into a really interesting conversation about his brand. Through my questions and my unique Sensorial Branded Wheel which I created for him, we were both able to see Janne from a new perspective. This triggered a whole conversation on his current branding and marketing strategy.
Lucky for him, I happen to love re-branding and challenging the status quo! So we decided to try some new things with his brand which have already been implemented over the last few weeks.
I am not only excited to see how this new strategy unfolds, but I am also honored to be able to show my support and be there for him, like he is always there for me.
After all, we are in this thing called life together and if we aren't each other's cheerleaders and mentors, then what is the point?

Tell me about your brand and your ideal customer:
I am your 3D guy: an award winning designer and 3D printing pioneer. My ideal customer is an existing brand or a new company, which wants to create a new product involving 3D tech; it could be AR, VR, 3D printing, 3D scanning or a 3D file platform.

How would your ideal customer feel about your brand?
How would your brand smell?
Sweet but spicy at the same time.
How would you describe the look of your brand?
Modern and simple with a splash of color. Black, white, gray, gold, silver, blue and pink.
How would your brand taste and why?
Strawberry with a side of lots of humor!
How would your brand sound?
Organized chaos, like a new type of jazz.
How did you get into 3D printing?
When I was 21 years old, I saw a 3D printer at a Fair making an object. My first thought was
“Wow! Every 3D file that I have in my computer, I can magically turn into a 3D object!”
For me this was powerful because it basically created a paradigm shift in my brain. Everything around me turned into wire frame and I immediately blended two different worlds, the digital and the physical. Years later when the Matrix movies came out, it wasn’t such a far fetched idea after all.
And what do you love best about your job as a designer?
It isn’t a job, it is a hobby!!
You started over 20 years ago when not a lot of people knew about 3D printing. What did you learn and is there anything you would do differently?
What I would do differently is continue to think big but learn how to communicate smaller. Timing is everything. You may have the best idea and vision in the world but if people aren’t ready to hear or see it, then it really won’t stick.
Would you give any advice to the future designers?
I would say it is important to stay curious and continue to ask questions from all people around you. Also, as much as possible, combine different disciplines which are unexpected and will create something new.
How are you Creating something new with different disciplines now?
Currently I am CEO and co-founder of Pixsweet, a pioneer in the 3D printing market specializing in foods. Pixsweet currently mass produces custom 3D ice pops, empowering brands to come alive with taste and shape! We also created the first 3D food platform which allows you the freedom to search, transform and create a 3D ice pop from any image you want. All this revolutionizes the food industry by combining design x tech x food.
How do you balance being CEO, designer, husband and father?
It is very challenging and I am not sure I have figured it out yet. Going back and forth between left and right brain for business and design is already difficult enough and then when you mix in the emotional intelligence required for being a good husband/father, things become super complex. But fast forward 10 years from today, I am sure I will be laughing at these struggles. As they say, the trouble of today is the joke of tomorrow.
What 2-3 tips would you give to other lady bosses?
Stop bossing your men around, ha ha.
On a serious note, it is important to follow your dreams and build your empire while also keeping the fire lit in your relationship with your partner.
By the way, I would give that same advice to myself, but it’s not easy and requires a lot of hard work and acceptance on both sides!
