A look inside my nutrition philosophy and program
A lot of people have asked me to share my nutrition program during my pregnancy! Even strangers on the street would stop me when I was pregnant and ask "You look amazing...what is your secret?!"
So I have decided to share with you my secret! The good news is that it is super easy!! I really didn't change that much from when I wasn't pregnant apart from removing certain foods (i.e. sushi) or limiting drinks (i.e. too much caffeine)!
And maybe that was the trick. One of the myths that you often hear is that you are now eating for two. I didn't really grab on to that mentality. If you read my blog, "Feeling beautiful pregnant" then you will notice that my motto was more to listen to your body and try to maintain a healthy lifestyle!
Besides listening to your body I also made sure that I was getting the best supplemental nutrition available. So I continued taking Herbalife throughout my pregnancy and I am convinced that is why I felt so amazing and only gained 25 pounds of healthy weight.
Here is what a typical day looks like for me:
Wake up and within 30 minutes I drink my healthy shake & protein (in all different flavors and combos to keep the mornings fun and different) and mango aloe water (some days I would mix with "NRG" to keep me going).
I then take a few tablets in order to optimize my cellular nutrition and provide the right amount of nutrients in my body which is difficult to maintain through diet alone. And even this has stayed the same before, during and after my pregnancy!
Two to three hours later I grab a healthy snack which is high in protein. Examples include avocado toast, 2 hardboiled eggs, a handful of nuts (almonds or walnuts are best), or a Herbalife protein bar (my fave is chocolate coconut).
Then for lunch I make a healthy meal like a salad with grilled chicken or leftovers from dinner the night before. And I am sure to take my tablets at every meal!
Then another two to three hours later I grab another healthy protein snack, maybe lowfat Greek yogurt with chia seeds and fresh fruit or a cup of quinoa salad with dried cranberries and sliced almonds in a light vinaigrette.
Finally for dinner I have another healthy meal which is high in lean protein with some veggies and some whole grain complex carbs (e.g. brown rice or quinoa). Repeat tablets!
And if I am craving a snack before bed I might have something light but sweet to fulfill my sweet tooth, like an apple with 1 tbsp of almond butter or a piece of dark chocolate.
The key is to watch your portions! Portion control doesn't really change when you're pregnant. In fact, towards the third trimester the trick for me to get the extra calories you need so baby gains good weight was by eating more frequently but smaller portions.
What happens if you don't do this? Well for me the days I was too busy and forgot to eat snacks throughout the day I would try to make up for it during dinner and then over eat because I was starving. I wound up feeling extremely full and uncomfortable afterwards.
Of course when you aren't pregnant this can happen too but when space is even more limited in your tummy because of baby the full feeling is compounded! So I quickly figured out that skipping snacks/meals during the day was not good for me and I adjusted by always having healthy snacks on me at all times! This may take a bit of planning if you are often on the go like me, but in the end it will save you from feeling miserable so it is definitely worth it!
My son, Aiden, is now 9 weeks old and I am almost back to my pre-pregnancy weight! But what is even more amazing is that I have kept the energy and healthy lifestyle to help me through the late night feedings or busy days as a mamapreneur!
And now I am working on getting mama abs and toning up again! Cannot wait to share those results with you again soon!
So there you have it...my secrets for a healthy pregnancy and beyond! I hope that you see that it is really about having a nutrition program which is easy to adapt to any situation. It might take a bit of discipline upfront but it is something that feels so good once you start that you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner.
I love the quote I heard once from another Herbalife colleague
"you don't even realize how bad you feel, until you feel so incredible healthy!"
Before I got started on Herbalife products I maintained an okay diet but I was working out seven days a week trying to lose stubborn weight around my belly. It was only until I changed my nutrition plan that I was able to achieve amazing things with my body, my energy, my digestive system and my mindset. Then I realized how unhealthy I really was.
As Jim Rohn once said
"For things to change, you have to change!"
Let me know when you are ready! I would love to introduce you to the products that changed my life and the friends I have made as part of Team Fearless!
