Daddy time: benefits for the whole family when mom has time off
I want to explore why daddy time is so important! Not just for mom, but for dad and baby too!
Recently I was able to take a long weekend away to Mammoth, California and spend time with a friend.
At first, I was hesitant about going away. Not just because of all the work that would pile up, but also for the guilt of being away from our son and for placing all the burden on my husband for a few days.
Who am I kidding?
The truth is…we all need to get away. Moms, dads, whomever! It is important for our well being!
What was great, is that by being away, I had the chance to think about parenting and how our roles as mothers and fathers have changed so much since our parent’s time!
This got me curious, so I decided to do a little research on the impact of dads having more time with their children in this new day and age.
What I found was really incredible. But before I share what I discovered, I thought it would be fun to have a short conversation and get the perspective of one daddy on some interesting topics! What better way to do this, than to have a discussion with my husband, Janne Kyttanen.
Here is a look at some of the topics we explore in this short video...
- Benefits for dad to get more "Daddy time"
- Work/life balance for dads today vs. in the past
- Most important skill during daddy time
- Benefits for the child with more "Daddy time"
- Benefits for mom to get away
And you know I am all about the senses so it’s obvious that I explored these during my research too!
In Summary...studies have shown that more daddy time is good all around
For the dad: Daddy time is good for their identity, bonding, strengthening their multi-tasking skills, and overall sense of purpose.
For the child: Daddy time can increase a child’s IQ, social and listening skills; can help encourage risk taking, ambition and control over their emotions.
For mom: Daddy time allows mom to step away in order to rejuvenate and gain more balance and even freedom.
Overall, I would say it is a win-win-win, wouldn’t you? Do you need more of an excuse to book that weekend away you have been longing for? If you already have, whose counting…you deserve another one real soon!
P.S. If you haven't been to Mammoth...you should seriously put it on your must see travel list! Especially in the summer time.
